News and EventsNovember 15th -A Night at the Races You are invited to a night at the races, hosted by Earsham Bowls Club, at Earsham Village Hall on Saturday, November 15th at 7.30pm. As well as ten exciting races, there will be a cabaret, an interval buffet and a licensed bar. Your race commentator will be the ever popular Ray Wharton, who has many years experience of this type of event. The cost is £6 per person. Star For A Night Once again, the Chamber of Trade are holding their late night shopping night and Christmas Light Switch-On event this year on Thursday 20th November This years theme is Star For A Night and all traders are invited to enter one member of staff to join in the parade dressed as a star of the big screen and there will be a small competition for the traders to win an "Oscar" for their business which will be printed in the local press. Another thing that has proved successful has been for traders to offer treats and nibbles for customers.

Cards will be on sale at The Toy and Gift Emporium in Earsham Street, Alex's Fruit and Veg at the Buttercross and Tops hairstylists on Upper Olland Street 80 years continuous service for RBLWS in Bungay The Bungay and District Branch of the Royal British Legion Women's Section celebrated it's 80th Anniversary having been founded on 22nd October 1928. Members, accompanied by their husbands, were also joined by the Bungay Royal British Legion committee and County Officers for dinner at the Golf Club on Saturday. Following an excellent meal the County Chairman paid tribute to the work done by the Women's Section, particularly in the county of Suffolk who raised the highest amount of donations last year and both Bungay and Halesworth branches were in the forefront and she was thrilled to present an 80th year certificate to Branch Chairman Mrs Susan Emeny to mark this event.
The Bungay RBL branch Chairman also presented a certificate of congratulations on behalf of the mens branch. The Women's Section raises funds to help the widows and wives of ex-servicemen and the Bungay branch have been doing so in continuously for the past eight years making it one of the oldest charities in the town apart from the Royal British Legion which was formed four years earlier. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday in the month where members meet to enjoy a cup of tea, listen to a variety of speakers and plan their fund raising events. Bingo also takes place at 2.30pm on the 4th Tuesday of every month at the RBL club in Priory Lane, In addition to helping the RBL at this time of Remembrance, the Women's Section are having a Christmas Bazaar on 22nd November at the Community Centre from 10am - 12.30pm AN EXCITING PUBLISHING EVENT FOR BUNGAY A NEW VOLUME OF "THE TOWN RECORDER" The second volume of photographs from the collection of Frank Honeywood is available to order Like the first volume, published in 1994, the book contains over 170 photographs from Frank’s unique and historic collection. Whereas the first volume covered town history and amenities, the second volume focuses on Bungay’s social life. It includes photographs of all thirty three pubs that existed in c. 1900, as well as extensive sections on sports and leisure activities, and the celebration of royal events from the Victorian period until recent times.
