Judy's Parachute Jump for Charity

We featured an article recently about Paul Eagle who has raised money continuously to help others at The Sandra Chapman Centre where he was treated for cancer. Paul has held many fund raising events including the annual Charity Darts Tournament which is attended by dart players at all levels.

Paul's mother Judy Page longed to do something herself to raise money for Paul's charity and, without ever having been in an aeroplane, bravely vowed to do a tandem parachute jump. However before even being considered for the jump, Judy wanted to lose a stone and a half so that she would land gracefully rather than come down to earth with a bump! This she managed with the local Slimming World group in Bungay.

Judy's daughter (and obviously Paul's sister) Sarah Eagle also wanted to support her Mum and set about asking for sponsorship particularly from The Castle Inn, where Sarah works. Mark, Tanya and the staff there all became involved and would also be jumping as indeed was Juliette from Bells of Suffolk so it was on a rather foggy morning that several from Bungay, (those jumping and friends and familes supporting) entered Old Buckenham airfield. A very welcome cup of tea was enjoyed and bacon rolls and very soon the weather cleared and the jumps were underway.

As they emerged from the plane those on the ground could only see tiny specks in the sky and waited with baited breath for the parachutes to open and as soon as they came into view cameras and camcorders started recording the days events. Everyone was elated at what they had achieved and there were congratulations all round with wine and pink champagne. A truly memorable day and to cap it Judy raised over £750 in sponsorship herself and all other sponsorship raised was going to the same cause. Judy said that she was thrilled with this and thanked everyone who had come to support her. Although she has never flown on a long journey, at least she knows what to do if she has to bail out !!.
